The Downward Spiral is the second studio album by Nine Inch Nails. Led by vocalist and keyboardist Trent Reznor, NIN is an American industrial rock band known for its blend of synth-pop, heavy metal and techno. Reznor had an affinity for the macabre, moving to the Cielo Drive home that was the site of the gruesome 1960 murder of actress Sharon Tate by the Manson Family. He made it into a studio called “Le Pig” after the message scrawled on the front door in Tate’s blood, where he recorded the album Broken (1992) and The Downward Spiral (1994).
